The Press Tent - Latest NoClu Golf NewsAt NoClu! Golf, Help With Your Golf Game Has Arrived
NoClu! Golf - the new and funny golf website that celebrates all of us "baffled, stumped, dumbfounded and confused" golfers who do dumb stuff out on the golf course but can't figure out why, has announced that help has arrived. NoClu! Golf has teamed up with Nathan Presnal, the talented and camera-savvy Head Pro at Lake Presidential Golf Club in Upper Marlboro, MD, to provide a regular series of enlightening golf tips on its web site. Presnal is the author of the soon-to-be-published book Find The Center debunking many of the old myths about how we learned to play the game. "NoClu! golfers aren't bad golfers," said Steve Bassett, co-founder of NoClu! Golf with partner Glen Bjorklund, "we're just golfers who have those occasional NoClu! moments out on the golf course. We all want to get better and need some help improving our games whether it's hitting our drives past the pink tees, fixing that hook which flies more like a boomerang, keeping our chips out of the next county, getting out of the bunker without a front loader, or putting it in the general direction of the flag stick. This is exactly what these timely video golf tips will help us do," he added. Three video golf tip segments titled "Fixing Those NoClu! Moments with Nathan Presnal" were posted on the NoClu! web site this week - Grip, Aim & Setup, Long Iron vs. Hybrid, and Win More Sandies. Bassett said a new video tip, each of which begins with a laugh-out-loud open, will be posted on the site every Monday leading up to the Inaugural NoClu! Golf Classic at Lake Presidential July 29th and culminating with a free one-hour instructional clinic before tee-off at the tournament. Bassett added that the tips will continue after the tournament and be a regular feature on the web site. The new video tips were produced by Brian Bassett of Scholastic Sports Net (www.watchssn.com). "We may be NoClu! golfers but we're not stupid," said Bjorklund. "Besides providing Putterheads with ways to improve our games, this new feature also is intended to help attract more golfers to our web site to stimulate interest in our golf tournament as well as our unique NoClu! and Putterhead shirts, caps, golf towels and other cool stuff." The NoClu! Golf Classic is a Texas-style scramble tournament open to the public that includes a free golf clinic, 18-hole tournament with cart, and dinner. NoClu! golfers can register at www.noclugolf.com for only $95 before June 1st ($115 after that). A percentage of the proceeds from the tournament will be donated to The Fisher House which provides assistance to our military and their families in a time of need (www.fisherhouse.org). "Lake Presidential Golf Club (www.lakepresidentialgolf.com) is a magnificent and very challenging course and Nathan is one of the top PGA pros in the Washington metropolitan area and we sincerely appreciate all of the help he and his team have given us to get our first NoClu! Golf Classic launched," said Bassett.
Bits & Pieces: Local duo takes a shot with new line of golfing apparel
How many of us with golf clubs in hand have taken a swing only to conclude "I don't have a clue" where that shot landed? Well, Steve Bassett and Glen Bjorklund realize that there must be others like them. The two locals have decided to take this shot consternation one step further. They have created NoClu! Golf and plan to sell apparel, including shirts, caps and golf towels, as a hobby. Some of the proceeds will be earmarked for charity. The NoClu! idea sprung from a golf outing at Hobbit's Glen last fall. After a few errant shots, one of the two long-time buddies declared, "Man, I just have no clue." And the light bulb went on. "We aren't in it for the money," Steve told me. "If we do make a few bucks that's fine but we are in it to make people laugh and (plan) to give some of the proceeds to the United States Golf Association's For the Good of the Game program which introduces the game to the economically disadvantaged. Although NoClu! stemmed from a golf outing, the project really got started when Steve and Glen, high school classmates at Bladensburg, attended their 40th class reunion. The two bearded wonders hope to start a golf tournament in the future. Their Web site, www.noclugolf.com, shows their sense of humor. |
